Air Pollution, A Growing Problem
Imagine a time when blue skies and clean air no longer exist, a time when smog and pollution hold a grasp on our world with no hope of clearing up. This world may seem unbelieveable but with the habits of people in the world today, this time may be approaching. Air pollution had been a growing problem in America for some time now and seems to be something we should get used too. Between cars and factories, many human built items have become main contributors to today's pollution problem and it seems like it's only gotten worse.
The life we live is strongly based on the world surrounding us and in the present day that world is filled with pollution and chemicals that have harmful effects on humans. Air pollution and the chemicals in the air need to be addressed and fixed by the people before things get too bad and it is officially out of our control. In the present day, air pollution has ogtten so bad it has burned a hole through our ozone layer of the atmosphere and is causing global warming throughout the planet. Doesn't this seem like serious enough of a problem for people an dorganizations to get involved and start saving the planet?
History
The problem of air pollution dates way back in history but has only been recently acknowledged as a serious problem. Without any serious acknowledgement of the problem when it started, it has gotten extremely worse over time. Dating all the way back to 1952 in London, the "Smog Disaster" killed 4 thousand people due to high emissions of air pollution. Other tragic events due to air pollution date back to 1948 in Donora, Pennsylvania, and even 1930 in Belgium. In all of these events, people were killed due to extreme build ups of polluted air that affected their lungs. Air pollution is directly related to the serious advances during the industrial revolution has been a growing problem ever since.
Recognizing the Problem
With air pollution only starting to be recognized as a problem, the risk of air pollution is still very high. No one wants to believe that air pollution is actually killing people, but with out assessing the problem and fixing it, more and more lives are being put at risk each day. The polluted air has negative effects on our breathing while also having harmful effects on the enviroment around us.
It has been estimated that the average person breathes 20,000 liters of air each day, this means that the more the air gets polluted, the more our lungs are vulnerable to dangerous chemicals in the polluted air. Many of the chemicals in the air are the direct cause of trouble breathing for those with asthma or other breathing problems. Without recognizing this as a serious issue, the air quality will continue to keep getting worse and worse and humans will be affected by these changes. These careless actions by humans towards air pollution are causing for growing problems in our breathing, in our enviroments, and also in our everyday life.
