CYBER BULLYING: THE BULLY BEHIND THE SCREEN
Have you ever been bullied? Been called fat, ugly, or stupid? Well I can guess that the answer to most of you is,"yes of course!" People are bullied every day in some way shape or form. One very common form of bullying is cyber bullying. Cyber bullying is a phase I’m sure everyone is well aware of. Just in case you don’t know, it’s when you bully someone repeatedly online. With so much access to technology now-a-days, this form of bullying is being seen more and more frequently. People online become much more brave and are able to say things that they wouldn't normally be able to say to someones face. As you grow older, life is becoming more complicated as it is. You have more responsibilities and you’re going through new changes. People should be focusing on themselves and not worry about bothering others. There is no reason why cyber bullying should even exist.
Effects
What comes with growing up is knowing that your actions have consequences. Sometimes we think that we can do what they want because we think that saying sorry will fix things. Well this is not the case with cyber bullying. Once you post something online, it's there forever. People seem to think that once it's deleted it's gone forever, but in reality it's not at all and can be very easily found. If you can't say it to the persons face then you should not be saying it online. The sad truth is that young kids are committing suicide because of this kind of bullying. This is happening because no one is doing anything about the bullying, they just laugh and go along with it to seem cool. The victim feels alone and embarrassed to tell any kind of authority. In cases where the victim commits suicide there can be major effects on everyone involved. The Youtube video below shows a young girl who committed suicide because of cyber bullying and the actions that are taken against the bullies.
If this video doesn't get the point across, then I don't know what will. These cyber bullies were so mean that they actually posted about their actions causing the poor girl to commit suicide. All the girls involved in this tragedy were so young and now one child is gone and two children will be charged with serious crimes and saying "sorry" will not get them out of it. Cyber bullying can have long term consequences that people often don't think about when they're posting that mean post on Facebook or Twitter. So next time you're posting something online just think, "Could this hurt anyone?"
