High Pressure Food Processing

A kid growing up in today's world has more thank likely heard the phrase, "Everyone needs to eat their vegetables to stay healthy and grow." Looking into pretty much any freezer in America, one is bound to see a bag of frozen vegetables. Kids know it is the right thing to eat their vegetables, but do they know why exactly vegetables are good for them? The answer is the large amount of nutrition found in vegetables, which help keep children living a healthy life. The nutrition found in vegetables is only there because of something called food processing. Normally, vegetables are stuck in a microwave-like machine to make sure they have all the nutrients children need. This has been known to get rid of a lot of the vegetable's nutrition, so now, vegetables are starting to be processed using pressure instead of this microwave-like machine.

For those who are unaware, all of the food that is seen in a grocery store has been processed in some shape or form. In simpler terms, to "process" food means to preserve food. When it comes to food, the goal of processing is to preserve food and increase its time to be sold in a grocery store. Some of these processes include adding salt to food, but also treatments through the previously stated "microwave-like machine." Food processing can be done in two ways; it can be done through the microwave method which destroys many of the nutrients kids need, or through something called high pressure food processing that makes sure kids are receiving all of their nutrients from foods such as vegetables. This report will tell you a little more about how high pressure food processing works.

How High Pressure Food Processing Works

Simply enough, high pressure food processing uses a tube-like machine filled with water to make sure vegetables are safe to eat for children, while still having all of the nutrients to help them grow. Any vegetable is placed in a tightly sealed plastic bag and then put into the machine.
Water shoots from the bottom and the top of the tube, sandwiching the vegetable in the middle. This pressure created by water kills all bacteria that can make children sick, and and does not kill valuable nutrients like the microwave process. High pressure food processing allows children to know that the vegetables they eat are filled with valuable nutrients and will allow them to grow into healthy adults.
