Cyber Bullying

Cyber Bullying is not OK!
Have you or someone you know ever been made fun of online? Imagine that someone you know is getting on your Facebook page and writing nasty things about you. These nasty things can be anywhere from comments made about your image, to harmful words being said about you online. What would you do if these comments were directed at you? Many kids today have to learn to either walk away or tell an adult. If this happened to someone you know would you tell someone or just let it go unnoticed? Well, one example is something that might change your mind to those answers if you didn't do anything to stop cyber bullying. Megan Meir, a young girl was a victim of cyber bullying. She fell in love with a boy who wasn't who he said he was. He was her best friend's mom, who pretending during the whole charade. "Josh" the fake profile this Mississippi woman created started to tell fragile Megan that she wasn't worth anything. She ended up hanging herself. As you can see, cyber bullying is not a matter to be messed around with.

Many teenagers don't understand the real harm they are causing other teens. One might argue that it's as simple as walking away from the computer. However, it isn't that easy. If someone is saying something over and over again about you, you aren't going to walk away. You will want to see every single thing that person was saying about you. After this is where someone needs to make a decision which reflects directly to a person's maturity level. If you are a mature person you will step away and not retaliate, as things will soon fade. However, a lot of teenagers think the best thing to do without thinking is to come right back at that person. Also, a lot of victims of this type of bullying think self harm will get them through it or just overall relieve the pain. This is why kids are starting to commit suicide, as well as starting online fights through Facebook, Twitter and other social media. How you deal with this type of bullying needs to be the mature choice; step away. Don't retaliate and be the better person choosing to not let these people get under your skin.
